China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD)

Established in 1989, China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) (formerly China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA)) is a public charity organization dedicated to humanitarian relief, poverty alleviation and development. Domestically, CFRD’s work revolves around five aspects; rural industrial development, talent development, rural construction, rural social welfare and social mobilization. Internationally, CFRD focuses on the six United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, and decent work and economic growth, upholding the philosophy of ‘Love without Borders, People to People Connectivity’. By the end of 2024, we have carried out humanitarian relief and poverty reduction projects in more than 30 countries and regions, raising a total of USD 71 million and benefiting 2.56 million people. Currently, we have registered overseas offices in Myanmar, Nepal and Ethiopia.

Following the devastating 2015 earthquake in Nepal, CFRD with over 10 years of experience in international and domestic disaster relief work, immediately mobilized its resources to launch an emergency response with support of the Humanitarian Rescue Team and Network. On August 13, 2015, the general agreement with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal was signed to officially set up the Nepal Office and became the first registered Chinese INGO in Nepal.

Strengthened by its effective programs and partnerships in Nepal, CFRD expanded its presence in South Asia by commencing activities in Sri Lanka in 2022 and distributed emergency food packs to more than 11,000 families affected by the economic crisis and covid pandemic.

As of mid-2025, CFRD’s Nepal Office has received a total of USD 14.61 million in donations, enabling the organization to reach and positively impact more than 842,681 individuals. These achievements highlight CFRD’s enduring dedication to improving lives and building resilient communities across the region. CFRD has aided in four key areas: community development, education, rural development, and disaster response & post-disaster recovery through wide range of impactful programs addressing immediate humanitarian needs while fostering sustainable development.
